Self-empowerment
This workshop will be used to define and discuss self-empowerment. Facilitator will lead an eye opening exercise, which will allow participants to see how personal expectations
of themselves and the world around them can either hold them back or set the foundation for success. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of creating a new and healthy focus on life.
Your Place In The World
This session will look at how participants view themselves and their place in the world
in relation to societal influences and peer pressure. Participants will also
discuss how positive self-perception can contribute to mental health and personal success in all walks of life.
Relationships
Facilitator and participants will identify and discuss the differences between healthy
and unhealthy relationships with family, friends, and boyfriend/girlfriend.
Media Influence
Facilitator and participants will study and dissect the lyrics of popular Rap and R&B
songs This exercise will lead into a discussion on the impact that popular media has on youth culture and how it
can influence their decision making process in an either positive or negative way. Emphasis will be placed on developing
positive outcomes and dispelling the dangerous illusions that mainstream media promotes to the youth.
Violence in the Community (Conflict Resolution/Role Playing)
Participants and facilitator will explore the reasons why violence is so prevalent in the
streets, at school, and beyond. Participants will engage in a conflict resolution exercise and discuss ways to defuse
potential problem situations.
The Future
Participants will discuss their personal and career goals and map out realistic plans
for achieving these goals. Participants will also work on a realistic life budget
in order to help them financially project their future.
Stereotypes
Through an eye-opening interactive activity,
this workshop will lead participant into exploring racial stereotypes, their own prejudice, and the damage they can cause.
Participants and facilitator will work together to find ways to move beyond stereotypes.
